The Lodge
Waterfall Resort
Accessible by floatplane from Ketchikan and located on Prince of Wales Island in southeast Alaska, Waterfall Resort was once a historic cannery located in the heart of the massive fish runs that return annually to Alaska. Restored to its original state and then some, this location remains one of the state’s premier fishing grounds. Participants in the SALMONBOWL™ will stay two per guest room in a variety of room types, all offering full bath and two beds per room with tasteful décor suited to a remote wilderness lodge. Each guest is provided with rain wear on arrival (includes bib overalls and a hooded rain coat).
Fishing Fleet
The fishing fleet consists of 27 custom designed Almar aluminum 25-foot cabin cruisers built for Alaskan waters and designed for guest comfort including shock absorbing double seats for a comfortable ride, heated cabins, Furuno marine electronics, GPS, radar, color fish & depth meter and communications. The lodge features Shimano line counter reels and Loomis 8-foot one piece rods for Salmon fishing. No corners are cut, everything is top of the line for participants in the SALMONBOWL™.
Dinning
Breakfast is served each morning from 5:00-7:00 a.m. Lunch is taken on the boat to enjoy while fishing. Dinner is a nightly gourmet experience prepared by Chef Gary Bales in the Dining Hall overlooking picturesque Ulloa Channel and featuring amazing sunsets. All entrees, breads, pastries, soups, salads, and seafood are prepared fresh daily by the Chef and his staff.
Activities
At the end of each day, guests typically gather at the Lagoon Saloon for conversation (fish stories!) and beverages. Ron, the lodge mixologist has been with the resort for 18 years. The Lagoon Saloon overlooks the forest and the lagoon. It features ping pong tables, a card room and a movie room. For those who choose a more active evening, SALMONBOWL™ staff will guide a hike up to the Resort’s namesake waterfall which most often includes a stop to observe the black bears that make their home near the Resort.
